This major new event on the UK road industry’s calendar is taking place over four days at the MIRA proving grounds, near Nuneaton, Warwickshire. Running from 13.00 until 20.00 each day, the event will include an undercover exhibition and an outdoor day- and night-time demonstration of both reflective and directly illuminated highway products. These range from individual PPE, vehicle conspicuity markings, road markings and road studs, right through to verge and gantry mounted direction signs. Products will be installed as they would be on the highway, beside a metalled (asphalt) road circuit (the MIRA handling and stability circuit shown here in red). The demonstration will include a 200m lit section using street lighting columns, to enable the viewing of the effects that the dimming and switching on/off of street lighting may have on the performance of lit and reflective products. This event is free of charge to attend and visitors will be free to walk about on the circuit and see the products in situ for themselves during daylight hours. After dark, visitors will be able to consider the effectiveness of the different products as they are driven around the circuit in a variety of vehicles, including cars, minibuses, coaches and HGV’s. The exhibition will take place in a large heated and lit marquee, adjacent to the street lit area. Food, refreshments and toilet facilities will all be available throughout the event. Come prepared for foul weather – we’re actually hoping for it! The more adverse the conditions the better, because part of the purpose of the four days is to examine how well these products can perform in such conditions. It is anticipated that the event will be attended by a mix of road safety, signing, signals and lighting engineers, contractors, maintenance and incident management crews as well as emergency services personnel. Unfortunately, places have to be limited in order to adhere to Health and Safety requirements and, therefore, this is a ticket only event. |
